Today I joined an anti-communist protest in Berlin.
Aleyda Guevara, daughter of Ernesto "Che" Guevara, was in the city. For many Cubans, that name isn't some abstract symbol from a T-shirt. It points to prison, firing squads, repression, and decades of political rot. So dozens of Cubans and Germans showed up to protest her presence.
I was there for hours.
My work didn't stop.
what I set up before leaving
Before I went out, I left Asere, my AI assistant, with a few concrete jobs:
- check the support bot
- configure embeddings for gbrain with a new OpenAI API key
- keep an eye on background processes
While I was at the protest, I sent voice notes with instructions.
Asere executed the work, reported back, and flagged problems when something broke. The first API key was invalid, for example, so I had to make a decision. But the loop kept moving.
By the time I was back, Asere had finished indexing 2,311 pages for the knowledge system.
That part matters more to me than the headline.
Not because it's flashy. Because it changes what work feels like.
what actually changed
The old model is simple: if you're away from the desk, work stops.
The new model is different. If the system is good enough, you can stay in motion and still move important things forward.
That only works if three things are true:
- the system can execute, not just answer
- communication works asynchronously
- the assistant can act within clear boundaries instead of waiting for permission every 30 seconds
That's the difference between a chatbot and an operator.
A chatbot talks.
An operator does the work, checks the result, and tells you where human judgment is still needed.
freedom is the point
I don't want technology that glues me to a chair.
I want technology that lets me show up where I actually need to be, without dropping everything else.
That can mean a client meeting. It can mean a train ride. It can mean a protest in Berlin shouting for a free Cuba while your systems keep running in the background.
That's the real shift.
Not faster prompts. Not better demos.
More freedom.
